Someone Cares Kitchen in Costa Mesa
Presented by OC Foodie Fest
This Tuesday, OC Foodie Fest is bringing gourmet food trucks together to feed 300 less fortunate individuals in the Costa Mesa area. Orange County-based trucks will each donate food items from 1 to 3 p.m. this Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Someone Cares Kitchen. Feed The Hungry is an ongoing event that OC Foodie Fest would like to have at soup kitchens and other areas monthly.
Feed the Hungry was inspired by the OC Foodie Fest mission statement to celebrate the love of food and use its power to bring the community together. The local OC trucks took it upon themselves to extend that mission and are using their amazing cuisine to generously give back to the local community to help those in need.
First off, thank you to all of the volunteers, donors, celebrities, DJs, gourmet food trucks, foodies, and everyone that came out last Wednesday to help Drive Out Hunger. Kim and I continue to be amazed at the outpouring of support from the entire community.
With everyone’s help, we turned in about 3000 pounds of food from the event. That is just for Wednesday! In addition, over $5,000 collected from the silent auction will also go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Over 2,200 people were in attendance for the event. In all cases we smashed our goals!
Drive Out Hunger OC 2010 is not over either, we have so far collected another 1,180 pounds and have more coming in. You have until Saturday, November 20 to get your donations in to your favorite participating gourmet food truck. If you do not have time but still want to contribute please click here for the virtual store. Proceeds go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.
We will have another update either Monday or Tuesday when all of the donations have been counted but please donate if you can. Over 600,000 people in Orange County alone are at risk of going hungry this month!
Tomorrow is the big day; about 20 celebrities, 19 food trucks, and an incredible silent auction will be ready to help Drive Out Hunger. If you are interested in getting into the celebrity autograph area all you need to do is bring 10 cans or non-perishable food items (or $20 donation) per person. If you want to come just for some of the amazing gourmet food truck fare, the trucks will be ready for you.
Parking is free, and free admission to get to the gourmet food trucks. If you can bring cans to support, please do. Every non-perishable food donation helps! So far, we have raised over 1300 pounds of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. We are hoping to raise a whole lot more! Proceeds from the silent auction go to Second Harvest Food Bank.
This is still an OC DinDin-A-GoGo, so please bring your chairs and picnic tables. Also dress warm, we want to make sure everyone has a great time. There is tons of space to spread out. We do not know how many people will be attending but there is plenty of space. Expect there will be lines for autographs and food trucks. Bring the family and make a night of it.
