One of Our Favorites, Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n Waffles

If we frequent a restaurant many times, we make sure to try different items on their menu.  However there are exceptions to every rule.  In this case we are talking about Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles in Long Beach, CA.  Here, we usually get the same thing every time we go.  Yep, you guessed it, fried chicken and waffles.

Half Chicken - Have to take some home!

Fried chicken is one of my all-time favorite foods and combined with an incredible waffle, you have a masterpiece.  This southern style restaurant specializes in both.  Roscoe’s chicken is one of the best around (maybe in the world?), with a light, simple breading that offers a great crunch.  The waffles have a flavor like no other, nor have anyone been able to replicate. It is soft but with the essence of vanilla and cinnamon, served with butter and syrup.  There has to be something else too because they are so addicting!

Chicken Chili

On our last visit we noticed a new menu item, chicken chili. Considering how much I like chili I had to try it.  Like the rest of their menu, the chili has a southern flair and did not have any beans.  It reminded me of a simple beef chili but made with chicken instead.  It had very good flavor with just a touch of spice.  I bet it would be perfect on top of some nachos or chili cheese fries.

Roscoe’s has a fairly simple menu but they execute well.  We try to get there early on weekends because they are known to get long lines.  If you have not tried their chicken and waffles, make sure you do.  They will keep you coming back for more!

  1. My husband and I think that the secret ingredient to the waffles is nutmeg. We haven’t been to this place in a few years, but it will have to wait one more year because my husband is not eating fried food as his NY’s resolution this year.

    1. Ouch! That is one heck of a New Year’s resolution!!

I will have to try nutmeg next time. I am also wondering if they do something with their syrup as well. – Jason

  2. OMG Roscoe’s is one of my weakness. The best one IMHO is the Pico location. That one has the best character, even though its in the sketchy part of town.

    1. Thank you for adding the note about the Pico location. We always go to the Long Beach one but now we will have to another location! – Jason
